A Message from the HOA President

What an exciting time to live in Clayton!! Your board has been hard at work to improve our community and enhance daily life.  On Saturday, June 22, we held a Free Tree event at the park.  Thanks to the hard work of Janice Little-Placide and Donna Kinerd, over 75 Orchid Trees were handed out to residents.  Donna grew the trees from seed and Janice organized youth volunteers to deliver the plants.  Board members Harold Braun, Patricia Bernard and Tracy Jones helped supervise the plant delivery.  The trees will grow to 20 feet within just a couple years and add beauty and color to our streets. Two lucky residents also won Plumeria plants in the door prize give away.

Janice’s youth volunteer group carried plants and gathered email addresses during the tree give away, earning two hours of community service credit and certificates of appreciation.  Janice has put a lot of hard work into organizing the kids and has plans for several exciting events in the near future.  Not only will the youth accrue volunteer hours, all the community service activities will be performed right here in Clayton.

Summer is in full swing and the pool is being used more than ever.  Unfortunately, the baby pool has been out of service for at least a couple weeks.  The pool company is aware and working on the issue.  Please remind your kids that there is no diving in the shallow end and running is very dangerous on the wet concrete.  In an effort to get more use out of the pool, the board is exploring the option of swim lessons for children and aerobics classes for adult residents.  Watch for upcoming announcements concerning dates and times.

Several neighbors have advised the board of a problem with the security alarm at the Family Dollar on the corner of Westpark and Addicks Clodine.  The alarm has been sounding in the middle of the night for as much as 20 minutes at a time.  Reports have been filed with the Harris County Sheriff’s office and complaints lodged with the district manager for Family Dollar to no avail.  The board has now escalated the matter to the Family Dollar corporate legal department in North Carolina.  Future complaints may be addressed in writing to:

One way that you can stay informed about what is going on in Clayton and the surrounding area is by using https://claytontx.nextdoor.com.  Next Door is a private social network for you, your neighbors and community.  It’s an easy way for us to talk online and it’s FREE! The site currently has 43 members from Clayton and 90 from nearby neighborhoods.  You can choose to share information with everyone or limit it to only Clayton.  It is a great way to learn about events and crime, locate lost & found items and even peruse the classifieds.  All content is contributed by members and is not monitored or regulated by this HOA or any other.

As always, please contact the board with comments, questions, concerns and suggestions.  We are always happy to hear from our residents.

Clayton Community Volunteers Deliver

On June 22, 2013, Clayton Community Volunteers successfully completed its first community service project. The volunteers delivered Orchid Tree Plants to residents of the Clayton Community.

The volunteers had an opportunity to meet new people, engage in teamwork, and enhance their communication skills, while brightening a resident day.

Residents also had an opportunity to visit the park and pick up an Orchid Tree plant, which they were also able to meet the Clayton Home Owners Association Board members and volunteers.

The photos below captures the volunteers experience.   Turn up the sound!

Several residents did not receive an Orchid Tree plant due to the time constraint of the volunteer project. The volunteers will do another plant delivery/pick up community service project on August 17, 2013.

If you would like to add your name to the deliver list, please email:

Thank You Clayton Community Volunteers!
