 Notes From the HOA President

Last week we finally got a taste of some cooler weather and I say it’s about time! School is back in full swing and the kids are already working on flash cards and science fair projects.  Remember to watch out for school zones.  Though the weather may be cooler, the board is thinking ahead to how hot it will be next summer and how we can cool off when temperatures soar again…

I am excited to share that after much careful consideration, the board has voted to change the way we operate our swimming pool. When our current pool management contract is up in the spring, we will begin a transition to a Swim At Your Own Risk Facility.  This means, beginning next year we will NO LONGER HAVE LIFEGUARDS.  By eliminating the lifeguards, we will save an estimated $9,000 per year.  The savings will be used to install and manage a controlled access system designed to secure the pool area while increasing access.

The system will include a magnetically locked gate with key card (or fob) entry and will record every time the gate is opened, including the date, time and specific card used. Security cameras installed in the pool area will allow real time video monitoring of the facility in addition to recording the feed.  Our security patrol will also monitor the area and report any suspicious or dangerous behavior and will have the authority to remove any person from the pool area.

Exact hours have yet to be determined, but expect to see something like 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. during the summer and 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. in spring and fall. The pool will have to be closed one day a week for maintenance and shocking.

These and other details are still being worked out and will be communicated to residents as soon as we have a decision.  Please remember this is YOUR community and your input is welcome.  Come to the meetings or send us an email and let us know what you would like to see.  We are doing our best to make sure we are meeting the needs of the majority of residents.

Each household in the subdivision will have the opportunity to obtain a key card and will be responsible for the behavior of anyone using that card to enter the premises. As with the current system, all dues and fees must be current and the homeowner must sign a liability waiver before an access card will be issued.  Should a homeowner, or his or her guest cause, damage to the facility or otherwise violate pool rules, future access may be denied.

As part of the installation process, we will also be installing FREE WIFI for use in the pool and park areas.  A user name and password will be required to log in.  Once the system is functional, we will let everyone know how to obtain them.

The board is accepting bids for the access system through Wednesday, September 24, 2014, and hopes to approve a contract at the regularly scheduled board meeting at 7 p.m. on September 25, 2014.

These are big changes designed to improve access to amenities for all homeowners. As with any such process there are sure to be a few bumps along the way.  The board appreciates your support and hopes to see you at future meetings.  Until next time.

“A Voice for the 65,000 Residents of Greater Mission Bend”

Back 2 School Supplies Event

The Back 2 School Supplies Event sponsored by the Greater Mission Bend Area Council on August 16th at the New Life Baptist Church was a huge success.

Over 200 local families received generous bags of school supplies appropriate for their grade level and school district, Fort Bend and Alief.

The event was made possible by donations from GMBAC Business Partners and GMBAC Member HOA’s. Over 20 area residents donated their time to help hand out the supplies.  Several Clayton Families benefited from the Event.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office did a free Car Seat Inspection for those who wanted to make sure their car seats were safe.

The Community Volunteer Fire Department had a Fire Truck available for an up-close inspection for the young and old.

For additional details about the event please visit the GMBAC website.
