A Message from the HOA President

It is hard to believe that school is starting in just a couple of weeks.  The summer has flown by and many residents kept cool at the neighborhood pool.  We are happy to say that pool use appears to be up this year over last.  Take the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing dip or participate in a free water aerobics class before Labor Day when the pool will close for the season.  Several ladies from the neighborhood meet at the pool at 2 p.m. on Saturday to exercise for about 45 minutes.  It is free to all residents, men included!

Another improvement made recently was the resurfacing of the tennis courts.  We went with a rust colored coating which, along with the new nets, gives a fresh look to our recreational area.   A key to the tennis courts can be obtained from the property management company.

In other exciting news, we are delighted to welcome Sylvia Marinez to the Clayton Board.  Sylvia has been a home owner in Clayton for many years and is also involved in community activities outside of Clayton.  She is familiar with the problems facing Clayton and the surrounding area.   We look forward to her input and ideas on how to address them.

Recently some neighbors have brought maintenance issues such as mowing, weed-eating and ill-kept properties to our attention.  We are working hard to address these issues as quickly as we can while complying with state law and neighborhood by-laws.  Please help us by notifying the Board if you see a curb

appeal issue developing.  Most of the time we are already aware the problem and addressing it but the processes is time sensitive and the sooner we start the required letter process, the sooner we can take action.

There are now 50 Clayton Residents that are sharing information about crime, community activities, loose dogs, etc. on www.ClaytonNextdoor.com.  This is social network for Clayton Residents and is neighbor communicating with neighbor.   Clayton members are also able to share information with NextDoor members of a neighboring HOA, Forestview/Wingate.

The Community Service Volunteer Program for Clayton children, ages 12 to 17, is planning a second plant give away event on Saturday, August 17th.   See details below.  Board Member Janice Little heads up the program.  See the Clayton Website  for additional information and to learn how to get your child involved.  Additional Events are in the planning stage.

Since school is starting, driving slow and coming to a complete stop at all stop signs is extra important.  Also, remember it is against the law to talk on your cell phone in a school zone and in Alief you can be fined up to $200.

The volunteers on the Clayton Board are working hard to improve and maintain property values by making decisions that are best for the entire community.  But, it takes input, volunteering, residents and Board Members working together to make a difference.

As always, please contact the board with comments, questions, concerns and suggestions.  We are always happy to hear from our residents.
