A Message from the HOA President

Hello to all our wonderful residents!  The summer passed quickly and school is back in full swing.  Please be mindful of all the students who walk to and from Miller.  They are in all areas of the neighborhood and may dart out into the street so drive carefully!

We had a successful pool season this summer.  The last day was Monday, September 2.  While the pool is closed over the winter the board is working on some improvements.  We have ordered new chairs to provide more seating and cubbies have been installed near the restrooms to allow for storage of towels and other items by those who don’t need a chair.  The slide at the deep end continues to be an issue and the decision has been made to remove it.  The board wanted to replace it with a diving board but new safety regulations won’t allow for it.  Therefore, the slide will be removed and the concrete repaired.

2013 marks the 30th Annual National Night Out, a unique crime and drug prevention event held on the first Tuesday in October each year in Texas.

Most states hold their night out in August, but due to the extreme heat we often face, Texas celebrates in October.  This year, NNO will be held on Tuesday, October 1.  We hope to see you out, getting to know your neighbors and exchanging contact information.  Knowing how to reach your neighbors in an emergency strengthens our neighborhood watch and provides connectivity in times of need.

One emergency situation where neighbors and communities come together is in the aftermath of a hurricane.  Although we have yet to experience any bad weather this year, don’t become complacent.  Hurricane season is far from over.  Make sure you are prepared with supplies on hand – at least three days’ worth of food and water – and have an evacuation plan in place.  The Harris County Office of Emergency Management has lots of resources related to disaster preparedness.  Visit www.hcoem.org for more info.

As always, please contact the board with comments, questions, concerns and suggestions.  We are always happy to hear from our residents.
